Therapy. Nothing to worry about.
There are many misconceptions and anxieties surrounding even attending a therapy session.. A cognitive behavioural session with Leigh is not possibly what you are used to or might expect.
Firstly he promises to not wear his glasses on the end of his nose and peer at you reflectively whilst you are talking, and he won’t ever wear patches on his elbows or speak so slowly you want to shake him. Deal?
Leigh brings a refreshing new approach to therapy. He makes therapy normal, real, honest and positive. He see’s everyone as a true equal and treats people as such.
Sessions are typically held at Leigh’s office or when appropriate and agreed, sessions can be held in your home, work, by WebEx, SKYPE, Zoom or telephone.
It is not uncommon to meet Leigh for a walk and talk session
or he’ll work with you on a specific issue and end up with you at the dentist, supermarket; passenger in your car or sat with a spider on his knee.

60 minutes.
Each session is an hour of usually talking (there’s no getting away from that bit) and can be extended where necessary.
At first, most of the talking is about gaining a clear understanding of what the problem is. Together we will look to make sense of your thoughts, feelings and behaviours using the principles and techniques from cognitive behavioural therapy.
For example; If you are anxious, you are scared of something (fear is what anxiety is), so.., we will look at why? What don’t you want to feel or experience? What are you avoiding?
There is always a reason and Leigh is very good at helping you find it.
Then we need to look at what we can do about it or how we are going to cope with it. Following that, the important bit is to then look at how we are actually going to do 'it' and then we do it.
Underpinning all of this is a whole load of really good, helpful CBT stuff, theory and treatment which Leigh will tell you all about.

The Therapist
Leigh’s ability to get results for clients has been attributed to many reasons. Certainly he has an exceptional command of cognitive behavioural therapy, he is motivating and passionate about what he does, but it seems to be his honesty, integrity and genuine warmth that builds the trust required to allow him to help change someone’s life. He is acutely aware how difficult therapy can be and has almost an innate ability to make people feel at ease in his company.
Leigh enters therapy with all his clients as a team. It is to help people discover the origins of the problems they are experiencing, the function (there’s always a reason) of the way they feel, think and act. Leigh isn’t going to just listen as he wants you to experience change in your life. He will show you how to overcome limiting beliefs and self doubt and show you how to build your self confidence and self esteem.
